The New Option (test story) « on: Today at 03:23:37 AM » ReplyQuote It was Thursday and the grocery store was packed to the brim with people. The store was having their end of summer sale, with up to fifty percent off on all chicken, beef, and pork. By one get one deals on chips, dip, and salsa; and deals on bulk beer and soda cases. Everyone was getting supplies for their last cookouts of the year before the crisp winds of fall started. One of the people doing some last minute shopping was Brooklyn Ferris, a petite, olive skinned 20 something year old girl with brown hair that went down just past her shoulders, and slightly curled at the tips. She and her friends planned a cookout for that Saturday, and she was tasked with getting the food. She picked up some chicken, hot dogs, and burgers along with some chips, chip dip, soda, and some beer. She was just coming out of the store when a slightly overweight girl with a pixie haircut at a booth outside the store asked, “Mam, may I have a moment of your time?” “Sure!” Brooklyn answered while looking at her phone. She looked up to see the girl along with a gaunt man with shaggy hair. “Hello mam, my name is Hazel and this is Jeremy.” She introduce, “If you do mind, we would like to talk to you about the meat products that you just purchased.” Brooklyn slightly rolled her eyes, figuring these anti-meat protestors were going to give her a hard time, although she agreed to hear Hazel’s speech, not wanting to be rude and walk away. “Well mam.” Hazel started, “Now, you may believe that we are anti-meat. But, we are actually very pro meat! Despite this fact, there are many concerning things happening in the meat industry. In recent years running a farm has become cheaper and cheeper. As a result, farmers have been able to breed more and more animals. This leads to farm over-population, which results in cramped spaces for the animals, and many times the need to kill animals to make room for others.” Hazel took a sip of her coffee, “Most of these animals killed off to make room for others never see the stores. In fact 35% of them can’t be used for meat. This is due to facets such as illness, farmers maxing out their exports, etc... etc.” “Wow!” Hazel was shocked, “That’s so much senseless killing. But doesn’t that cost farmers lots of money?” “That’s the thing!” Hazel said eyes wide, “There is a government subsidy that pays farmers for the money they loose money because of this. Although it is supposed to even out loses, most farmers have found ways to get more money than they should. Thus, it benefits them more to purposely over-breed the animals.” “That’s terrible! Is there some kind of petition I can sign to hep end this?” Brooklyn asked with a concerned look. Jeremy folded his arms in frustration, “We tried that, but the government wouldn’t accept the petition. They said that too many farmers rely on subsidies, so it would be “unfair” to change the law.” “To be clear, we are not against farmers, in fact, we fully support them. Although, the cheating of this system by CORRUPT farmers needs to be stopped.” Hazel passionately added. “So how do we stop this?” Brooklyn asked, deeply engaged in the conversation. “Well, we found a way. According to our analysts, this method could create a smaller demand for meat, forcing corrupt farmers to breed less animals, resulting in more fair subsidy payoffs.” Jeremy stated. “Well, what is this wonderful method?” “Well, it may sound crazy, but it is....well....it’s ummm....” Jeremy stuttered. “Girl meat.” Hazel finished. “What?! Do you mean, like, human female meat?!” Brooklyn shouted so loudly that other looked towards her. “Yes...we know it sounds crazy... we even thought the same. But, there is evidence that this could end the overkilling of animals.” Jeremy said softly. “You can go to our website, thenewoption for more details.” Hazel offered. “Ya know, y’all are nice and all, and I agree with the cause, but this is just crazy.” Brooklyn said, as she walked away. “Well, thank you for your time mam, and remember, if you have a change of heart, go to thenewoption for more information.” Said Hazel as Brooklyn walked away.
