2020 Macau Grand Prix

The 2020 Macau Grand Prix was a motor race for Formula Four cars held on the streets of Macau on 22 November 2020. For the first time in 37 years, the event was not a Formula Three race of any form, but was a Formula 4 race, part of the domestic Formula 4 event, because of strict Chinese quarantine regulations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.[1]

Background and entry list

After the event was held as a non-championship round of the FIA Formula 3 Championship for the first time in 2019, and also saw the introduction of the Dallara F3 2019 car, those same circumstances were originally planned for 2020.[2] But with the world-wide disruptions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, this plan was abandoned by the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee in early September. Because of the mandatory 14-day quarantine regulation for competitors from abroad, almost all drivers that take part will be from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.[3] 2020's headlining category will not be a Formula Three race, but instead the season finale of the 2020 China Formula 4 Championship, competing in Formula 4 machinery with Mygale chassis and 2.0 turbo Geely G-Power JLD-4G20 engines.[4][5] It also was announced that the weekend format will be amended from five days in 2019 to no more than three days.[6]
