"Summer Babe (Winter Version)" is a song by the American indie rock band Pavement. It is the opening track of their debut album Slanted and Enchanted, released in April 1992 on Matador Records.[1]

The song was initially released as an EP/single titled Summer Babe[2] (out on August 23, 1991 through Drag City Records),[3] the first of two singles to be released from Slanted and Enchanted (the other being "Trigger Cut"). The song didn't enter the U.S. Billboard charts.[4][5]
In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked "Summer Babe (Winter Version)" by Pavement number 286 on its list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".[6] (In 2010, the list was updated, and now the song is at number 292.[4])

The song was written by Stephen Malkmus and the recording was produced by Malkmus and Scott Kannberg.[4]
