Tres Marías amazon

The Tres Marías amazon (Amazona oratrix tresmariae) is a parrot in the family Psittacidae. Many authorities consider it a subspecies of the yellow-headed amazon (Amazona oratrix), including the AOU, but is afforded full species status by the International Ornithological Congress.[1] It is endemic to the Islas Marías off the Pacific coast of Mexico.

Description

It has an all-yellow head, reaching to the foreneck and upper breast, and a yellow-tipped tail. It has white eyerings and orange-brown eyes. It has small red patches on its shoulders. Upperparts are paler green than Amazona oratrix and the underparts are blue-washed.[2]

In aviculture, a variety of yellow-headed amazon known as "magna" exists, which has been selectively-bred to maximize the yellow coloration of the head. Magna birds closely resemble Tres Marías amazons.[3]
